Define Software

Software is a collection of computer programs, procedures, and associated documentation that instructs a computer to perform specific tasks. Unlike hardware (the physical components of a computer system), software consists of data and instructions that can be stored electronically.

Key Components of Software

  1. Programs - Sets of instructions that tell the computer what tasks to perform
  2. Procedures - Rules or methods that describe how specific tasks are performed
  3. Documentation - Information that describes how the software operates and how to use it

Software is essentially the intangible part of a computer system that provides the logic, functionality, and capabilities for users to accomplish various tasks, from basic calculations to complex data analysis, entertainment, communication, and more.
